We Turned Down the Streaming Deal at Week Two. That Decision Made Us 80 Million More.
The producer behind one of this year's breakout theatrical runs speaks to NollyPrime about the gamble behind holding out.
At week two of the theatrical run, the offer came. A streaming platform wanted the film. The number was significant. The producer asked for time to think.
Everyone in the room thought I was making a mistake, she tells NollyPrime. My distributor thought I was wrong.
The Decision
Most Nollywood theatrical releases decline 35 to 50 percent in week two. This film had declined only 12 percent.
The streaming money was real. But the theatrical money I had not yet made was also real. I had to decide which one I trusted more.
She held. Week three brought an 18 percent increase. By the end of the run, the film had earned 80 million naira more than the streaming offer that had been on the table.
